Artesonado is "a type of intricately joined wooden ceiling in which supplementary laths are interlaced into the rafters supporting the roof to form decorative geometric patterns." These astounding ceilings and their culture heritage which date back to the Middle Ages and Renaissance eras is one of many cultural hallmarks left by Islamic Spain which migrated to the Americas with Spanish and Portuguese colonization.
